I had a dream - a dream of being a writer. But it wasn't until quite late in life and a personal brush with cancer that I decided to follow that dream. Although I am a long way from giving up my day job, I get to enjoy my passsion to write at every possible moment. I may only spend a few minutes, or it could be a few hours, but no matter what, I find the time to write something every day and at some stage in my life, I ultimately hope to - just write.
I have been very fortunate in that my first attempt to write non-fiction got me noticed by a publisher and now I am on my way to completing a series of self-help books for busy women. The catalyst that made this whole thing happen was my own personal battle with weight and body image. This prompted me to become more educated and more aware of the impact fads, modern foods and the modern diet have on body fat mass, and overall well-being. It became even more important to me after my breast cancer diagnosis because there is a growing body of evidence that clearly implicates diet as the main cause of this and other diseases.
Over time I put in place my 10 principles for permanent fat loss. I realised I had discovered something that actually worked for me and my busy lifestyle, and I wanted to share it with other women, who like me, had continued to wrestle with the temptation of fad dieting. I wanted to make a difference to others so I shared what I believe is the secret to losing unwanted fat and keeping it off. Diet Tips for Busy Chicks evolved and the rest as they say, is history.
The next of the series is currently under way and from there I hope to write one of these self-help books each year while I also juggle my insatiable passion to write fiction. I get lured by my characaters and one day I hope to share them with others.
Whenever possible, I make myself available to speak at a range of events and seminars about fad diets, healthy eating and tips to achieve a better lifestyle. I encourage busy women to have a goal, no matter how big or small it is, and I share simple strategies to ensure they achieve it.
I manage to do all of this while holding down a full time job in the health care industry so I don't have a lot of time for hobbies but I make sure I get to do the things I love the most - walking every day, cycling, the occasional movie and the best treat of all - a trip to my favourite cafe for some pure indulgence - coffee and chocolate!
I also love to cook, but I don't have a lot of time for fancy creations so instead I experiment with healthy, tasty recipes that don't take forever to prepare. My life is very, very busy - but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I love getting feedback of any kind, so please feel free to contact me via my website with your thoughts, questions or stories. I'd love to hear from you.
